Claude Dallas was a notorious fugitive and outlaw who gained attention in the 1980s for his violent behavior and evasion of the law. Born in 1950, Dallas was an experienced outdoorsman and hunter who lived a nomadic lifestyle in the mountains of Idaho.
Dallas gained notoriety in 1981 when he was involved in the killing of two game wardens, Conley Elms and Bill Pogue, who had been investigating Dallas for poaching. Dallas claimed he shot the men in self-defense, but he was eventually convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
In 1986, Dallas escaped from prison and went on the run for 17 months, evading capture despite a massive manhunt. He was eventually apprehended in California and returned to prison to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
Dallas was released from prison in 2005 and has since maintained a low profile. His story has been the subject of books and documentaries, and he remains a controversial figure in Idaho's history.
